This has got to be one of the craziest sounding (working) inventions that I’ve seen. This helicopter has little hydrogen peroxide powered rockets on the blades, which make them turn. The end result is flight, with the added bonus that you don’t need a big, heavy engine to achieve liftoff.

Last time I talked about how I blew out the PCI slot in my computer. Originally, I thought I burned my sound card, but replacing it with a new one produced the exact same symptoms. This meant that if I wanted a sound card at all, USB was going to be my only option. Combine that with the fact that newer computers are doing away with the PCI expansion slot (being replaced with e-PCI) and it appears that if I want to buy a soundcard that is somewhat future-proof, then USB is the clear choice once again.

This Creative E-MU 2020 external sound card looks like a nice option. It has a few essential inputs, trim knobs and a mic pre-amp, all without needing any power other than what the USB provides. I’d buy this today if I had the money. sale prices hover around the $130 mark , so if that’s too rich for your blood, then there’s always this:

M-Audio makes this little USB audio input box. It doesn’t really say that it’s a USB sound card, but I think it might be more than a mere interface. It costs about fifty bucks, so it is definitely more geared towards the penny pincher than the pro audio type. This one comes with some interesting software- virtual stomp boxes, and 3.5 gigs of audio, which I would hope are music loops.

This is probably the cheapest external sound card that I would buy. Remember, finding great prices is great, but you might just get what you paid for. Since I intend to use the sound card for recording music, I don’t want something that looks more like a thumb drive than a sound card!

Here’s an invention that is long overdue- easy to thread needles. You’d think that a civilization that can send a man to the moon could make a needle that is easy to thread. Well, finally we can! The design is simple yet effective, as you can see from the image shown here. These needles cost $5.50 each, but if you thread needles on a regular basis, then you know that it’s worth every penny.

I really like this wacky song. You know- the song from Star Wars in the scene with all the crazy aliens playing instrument, the scene where Han Solo Shot first? Well, here we have the song being played on a “Chapman Stick”. Speaking of sticks, this song always reminds me of the day I found out that my girlfriend had herpes simplex. My advice? If you ever date a nerdy girl, make her watch Star Wars movies with you before you do anything ‘extracurricular’- it’s like instant truth serum! Plus you could save your wookie from ending up looking like Yoda. Pow!

Geeks are different from the rest of us. Let’s face it: when the average man is feeling emasculated, he is likely to buy a fast car , a motorcycle, or maybe some testosterone cream . Geeks, on the other hand… make batteries with beer. This is probably the manliest battery out there. It’s surely the most testosterone fueled fuel cell I’ve seen. Except for my roommate’s gut, which was created by beer anyway, so it’s pretty much the same thing.

You could be looing at the future of projectile weapons- no longer will we rely on noisy combustion to launch our bullets. Instead, magnets will do the job for us, using electricity to quietly lob lead at our foes. This could also be used to deploy sleeping pills …er tranquilizer darts at wild animals. It could potentially be more powerful than the air based dart guns in use today. I’ve got a video of this gun being used for target practice- proof that it is seriously powerful:
