This incredible looking Porsche Spyder concept car is capable of getting 78 MPG and it can also hit 60 MPH in 3.2 seconds. This is the kind of thing that can make your green shopping dreams come true. Of course, while accelerating at full throttle, the fuel economy is sure to drop significantly, but it’s still cool that such a powerful beast can get such incredible mileage. I don’t imagine that the concept will make it all the way into production without losing some of it’s astounding stats. Worse than that, there are no plans to produce this machine at all. sigh.

I think I’ve found the car of my dreams. It’s a VW Scirocco modded to run on coffee. Sure, it only gets a mile or so for each pound of coffee grounds, but I tend to suck down the java and drive at a rate that makes this seem like a very cheap way to get around town. I bet that the exhaust from this thing smells awesome. Someone said that driving this machine would cost 50 times more than a conventional vehicle, but they aren’t accounting for my coffee drinking/driving habits. It would be practically free, I tell you.

On Monday morning, it’s hard for me to get passionate about anything (except maybe coffee). I was checking out sale prices at Buy.com when I saw this awesome little amplified woofer. Being that it was just an eight inch woofer, I had my doubts that it would sound good, but review after review said that this was an awesome little amplified subwoofer that you could easily tuck away under your front seat. The idea of having the woofer right under my seat is quite amusing to me. The price is fairly reasonable considering that it has the amp, a control dial and what looks like some crossovers and bass boost built right in. What I really like is the fact that this doesn’t take up half of my trunk. I’d buy this, as opposed to the traditional ‘big trunk’ woofer setup because I carry a lot of stuff in my car, and sometimes there just isn’t room for a woofer in the trunk… but I always have room under my seats! This is just brilliant.

Of course, you are going to need to get an amplifier installation kit to go with it… and why not stick with the same brand? Well, there’s not much to say about this one because it’s mostly a bunch of wires. Also, the speaker wire will not be needed with this amplified woofer.

Here’s a new take on the old ‘turn a hard drive into a clock’ trick; this one uses perfect timing and strobe lights to display the time. The creator of this timely invention has documented the project pretty thoroughly, so you could probably build your own.

Not only does this boat look really cool, but it is solar powered on top of that! This boat, 13 months in the making, is now ready for launch. Dubbed the PlanetSolar, it is preparing to embark on a round the world journey using only solar power, scheduled for 2011. I assume that this grace period is to ensure that all of the bugs are worked out and the driver has time to get a life insurance quote or two.

To give you an idea of the scale of this boat, it is 50 feet wide, 100+ feet long and 25 feet tall. I assume that the flat, “don’t hang out here in rough waters” deck is hiding a lot of sub-surface living area.

Be sure to check out the PlanetSolar homepage for a cool video and more pics.
